There where the sea once lay
We’re on the 45th parallel. The microclimate is perfect for cultivating vines. Between 5 and 2 million years ago, this land was covered by the sea. This ancient presence is still alive in the form of the fossils of the animals that lived in it: shells, whales and other aquatic animals. The Pliocene sea influenced the type of soil, calcareous marls which differ depending on the geological age. All soils that are ideal for growing vines. At Cascina Castlèt we cultivate six grape varieties, the best suited to these calcareous clay soils: Barbera, Moscato, Cabernet Sauvignon, Nebbiolo, Chardonnay and Uvalino.
